There won’t be a shortage of topics to discuss when “The New” Daniel Bryan joins The Miz for “Miz TV” this Friday night.

The former WWE Champion has appeared conflicted for weeks with the prospect of aligning himself with Sami Zayn and Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Now he’s also got “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt to worry about.

The Universal Champion took Bryan out with the Mandible Claw, appearing seemingly out of nowhere backstage when Zayn tried to finally pin Bryan down for a definitive answer.

Will Bryan finally have an answer? What will he have to say about the brutal attack at the hands of Wyatt? And let’s not forget about Bryan’s turbulent history with The Miz himself.

All the elements are in place for what promises to be a blockbuster edition of “Miz TV” — don’t miss it this Friday night on FOX at 8/7 C!

Nikki Cross can become the final member of Team SmackDown for the Five-Woman Survivor Series Elimination Match — but she’ll have to overcome SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley to do so.Lacey Evans joins team captain Sasha BanksCarmella and Dana Brooke, leaving one spot remaining on Team Blue — one coveted by WWE’s Twisted Sister. Banks doesn’t seem to want any part of teaming with her newfound rival, however, especially after both she and Bayley notched victories over Cross in recent weeks.

However, both of those wins came with each other’s assistance. Will the third time be the charm this time for Cross? Or will this bolder, edgier version of Bayley — with Banks likely not far behind — simply be too much once again for Cross to overcome? Find out this Friday night on FOX at 8/7 C!

The fourth member of the SmackDown women’s Survivor Series team for the 5 vs. 5 vs. 5 elimination match has been announced.

Lacey Evans joins Carmella, Dana Brooke and Sasha Banks as the first four to make the cut for the blue brand with one member still remaining.

Brooke and Carmella earned their spots by beating Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville in a tag match on SmackDown last week, whereas Banks and Evans didn’t have to ‘qualify’ for their spots.

WWE.com announced Evans’ inclusion:

The “nasties” of Raw and NXT are on notice as Lacey Evans has been named the fourth member of Team SmackDown for the Women’s Elimination Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series.

Evans joins captain Sasha Banks, as well as Carmella and Dana Brooke who earned their spots on the blue brand team with a victory over Fire & Desire last week. The addition of The Lady of WWE brings a whole new level of class to Team SmackDown and leaves one spot remaining on the squad.

Who will join Evans and complete the Team SmackDown roster for the showdown at Survivor Series?

Last week, WWE confirmed that along with Shotzi Blackheart, Indi Hartwel and Stephon Smith,  Scarlett Bordeaux had signed with WWE and will be reporting to the Performance Center.

On last night’s episode of NXT, some fans might have missed that Bordeaux actually made her televised debut for the black and gold brand.

Bordeaux was seen backstage checking on Candice LeRae who had been attacked along with Tegan Nox, Rhea Ripley, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke.

It was later revealed that the attacker was NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray.

It has been reported that Bordeaux paired with a male member of the NXT roster upon her proper NXT debut in the coming weeks. She is expected to also occasionally wrestle.

There's been a breakthrough in the search for a rabies vaccine after Australian researchers discovered how to stop the fatal virus shutting down the body's immune defence.

The work by researchers from Monash University and the University of Melbourne has "solved a key scientific puzzle, laying the foundation for the development of new anti-rabies vaccines", it was revealed on Wednesday.

Rabies kills an estimated 60,000 people a year, mostly in developing countries and is transmitted overwhelmingly through dog bites.

Dr Greg Moseley, from the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, and Associate Professor Paul Gooley, from the Bio21 Institute, are the senior authors of a study published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Cell Reports.

"It's been known for a long time that many viruses target the human protein STAT1 and related proteins to shut down the host's immune defences, and it's also assumed that this is very important for diseases," Dr Moseley said.

The researchers produced key proteins on the viral and host sides in a test tube and kept them stable so they could investigate how they interacted.

The researchers then brought the two proteins together and discovered how to prevent it from grabbing hold of STAT1 and holding onto it, to keep it away from locations in the cell where it needs to be to activate the immune response.

"We were able to find new regions and new sites for mutations and so could target these in a virus, completely preventing it from being able to grab hold of STAT1," Associate Professor Gooley, an expert in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, said.

All Saints' Day is a celebration of all Christian saints, particularly those who have no special feast days of their own, in many Roman Catholic, Anglican and Protestant churches. In many western churches it is annually held November 1 and in many eastern churches it is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost. It is also known as All Hallows Tide, All-Hallomas, or All Hallows' Day.

What Do People Do?

All Saints' Day is observed by Christians in many countries around the world. In countries such as Spain, Portugal and Mexico, offerings are made on this day. In countries such as Belgium, Hungary and Italy people bring flowers to the graves of dead relatives. In other parts of Europe, such as Austria, Croatia, Poland, and Romania, it is customary to light candles on top of visiting graves of deceased relatives. It is also observed in parts of Asia, such as the Philippines, where people visit graves of deceased relatives and clean or repair them. They also lay flowers on the graves and light candles.

In France church services in memory of all the saints are held on November 1 but by the evening the focus turns towards the dead. Cemeteries everywhere are crowded with people who come to clean and decorate family graves. All Saints' Day is closely tied with All Souls' Day, held on November 2, which is dedicated to prayers of the dead who are not yet glorified.

Public Life

All Saints’ Day is a public holiday in many countries such as (but not exclusive to):

  • Austria.
  • Belgium.
  • Bolivia.
  • Chile.
  • Croatia.
  • France.
  • Parts of Germany.
  • Hungary.
  • Italy.
  • Liechtenstein.
  • The Philippines.
  • Poland.
  • Portugal.
  • Spain.
  • Sweden (first Saturday of November) .
  • Parts of Switzerland.

It is not a nationwide public holiday in countries such as AustraliaCanadathe United Kingdom, or the United States. However, many Christians observe All Saints’ Day in these and other countries.

Background

According to some sources, the idea for All Saints' Day goes back to the fourth century when the Greek Christians kept a festival on the first Sunday after Pentecost (in late May or early June) in honor of all martyrs and saints. Other sources say that a commemoration of “All Martyrs” began to be celebrated as early as 270 CE but no specific month or date is recorded. Pope Gregory IV made All Saints' Day an authorized holiday in 835 CE. It is speculated that the chosen date for the event, November 1, may have been an attempt to supplant the pagan Festival of the Dead (also known as Samhain or the feast of Saman, lord of death).

All Saints' Day is not to be confused with All Souls’ Day, which was first instituted at the monastery in Cluny in 993 CE and quickly spread among Christians.

Symbols

Symbols commonly associated with All Saints’ Day are:

  • A sheaf of wheat.
  • Rayed Manus Dei (hand of God).
  • The crown.
  • Symbols (including images) of individual saints.

The liturgical color is white on All Saints' Day.

While many of us are aware that it’s simply a matter of “good manners” and “common sense” to be careful what we say and how we say it when we are dealing with others in person, these unspoken social norms seem to get tossed aside by many of us when we use social media or make other internet posts.

One of the many reasons for this phenomenon is that we aren’t face-to-face when we make a post on our Facebook wall or send out a tweet, so we don’t see their body language to know when we are entering dangerous territory by talking about a topic we shouldn’t discuss.

Also, the written word is notorious for causing misunderstandings because the reader can’t “hear” the correct tone or intention of our words since it is written rather than spoken. It’s even easy to feel insulated or anonymous when we are online and posting things to our “friends” and “followers.” So, many of us end up posting or tweeting things that we would never say “in person and in public.”

Whether you are talking to a friend or client in person, or are just making a comment on a website or sending out a social media post, you should always keep in mind that tone and intent can be hard to read. Remember that there is no such thing as anonymity anymore and that you are still using a public space. What you say or otherwise post can and will be shared, and possibly even used against you, as these posts are considered in the “public domain.”

At the very least, you may accidentally hurt someone’s feelings through something that you post or share online. At the worst, you can make the wrong impression and lose out on the opportunity to expand your business, lose your job, or even wind up in a court proceeding.

So, the next time you feel like mouthing off with an off-colour joke on your wall, participating in a flame fest about this or that politician or consider posting that not so funny picture of you and your friends getting hammered on New Year’s Eve, think before you click, and don’t “tell on yourself” to the “whole world.”

Have you ever posted something you have later come to regret?

ROME - In the October calendar of Vatican events, Pope Francis’s “Extraordinary Missionary Month” may be overshadowed by the Synod of Bishops for the Amazon and its related events.

But in the lead up to the monthlong focus on missionary outreach, Francis spoke frequently and in detail about the Christian obligation to share the Gospel through personal witness and welcome.

And while the synod preparations led to news headlines about climate change and a possible debate about ordaining some married men for ministry in their indigenous communities, the working document that will guide the assembly frames the whole discussion as a discernment of “the new paths whereby the Church in the Amazon will announce the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the coming years.”

On World Mission Sunday 2017, Francis announced his intention to dedicate the entire month of October 2019 - not just World Mission Sunday - to “the Church’s evangelizing activity ad gentes,” a phrase meaning “to the nations” and used to describe missionary activity focused on people who still have not heard the Gospel.

The pope is scheduled to launch the month with a prayer vigil in St. Peter’s Basilica the evening of Oct. 1, the feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, co-patron of the missions and one of Francis’s personal favorites.

Although St. Therese had dreamed of being a missionary, she never left the convent. Still, marking her feast day in 2013, Francis said, “The Church was wise to make this saint - humble, small, trusting in God, meek - patron of the missions” because “the strength of the Gospel is precisely there” in the humility that “allows itself to be guided by the love and tenderness of the Father.”

The pope’s talk of humility, respect for others and sharing the love and mercy of God does not mean he thinks the Church should be passive.

Francis wanted the monthlong focus on mission because he saw a need to give “fresh evangelical impulse to her work of preaching and bringing to the world the salvation of Jesus Christ.”

The central focus of mission is that “God wills that all people be saved by coming to know the truth and experiencing his mercy through the ministry of the Church, the universal sacrament of salvation,” Francis wrote in his message for the month.

Catholics must not think that missionary outreach belongs to the Church’s past. Today, as in Jesus’ age, it means hitting the road or, at least, supporting those who do.

“The Church,” the pope wrote, “needs men and women who, by virtue of their baptism, respond generously to the call to leave behind home, family, country, language and local church, and to be sent forth to the nations, to a world not yet transformed by the sacraments of Jesus Christ and his holy church.”

Of course, there are people in every neighborhood in every nation who need to hear of God’s love and mercy and be helped to follow Jesus. But the Church distinguishes between “new evangelization” - basically, a new effort to reach out to people who already have heard the Christian message - and the initial proclamation involved in going out ad gentes.

Oblate Father Andrew Small, national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States, said there is a “huge difference” between introducing people to Jesus for the first time and trying to reach out to those who would say, “Been there, done that, didn’t buy the T-shirt.”

But the Church “is not selling T-shirts,” he said. “It’s offering a lifelong relationship with a man called Jesus to people who are experienced collectors,” and that is a challenge to which all Christians must respond.

As part of its celebration of the Extraordinary Missionary Month, Small’s office is launching missio.org/course, which is a free, online introduction to mission theology. The course, he said, “takes learners through the history, theology and spirited relationships that make us who and what we are as a church - missionary by nature.”

Small also noted that in a June 2018 meeting with the Pontifical Mission Societies, which raise awareness about the missions and raise funds to support them, Francis spoke of the ties between the Amazon synod and the Extraordinary Missionary Month.

“We pray,” the pope had said, “that the Synod for the Amazon can help provide a more evangelical approach to missionary work in this area of the world that is so troubled, so unjustly exploited and so much in need of the salvation of Jesus Christ.”
